In order to be able to impart a high quality of training to candidates the teacher must fulfill the following minimum requirements:
Teacher application will be considered along with the Institution’s application. Teacher accreditation in isolation independent of Institute accreditation is not allowed (except for additional teacher from an already accredited institute)
Teacher should be working full time in the institute to be considered as a teacher for the ISCCM course.
Teachers must devote at least 50% of their professional time in Critical Care Medicine
Teacher should be a Life Member of ISCCM.
Teacher should be a post graduate degree holder with MCI recognised qualification- MD with at least 8 years of experience in critical care medicine post MD qualification, in recognized Institute( an Institute recognised by National Board/ ISCCM/ MCI / NABH Institute only).
Teachers with a MCI recognised Post Graduate Diploma-DA (Diploma in Anaesthesia) or DTCD (Diploma in TB and Chest Diseases), with at least 10 years of experience in critical care medicine after MCI recognised Post Graduate Diploma, in recognized Institute( an Institute recognised by National Board/ ISCCM/ MCI / NABH Institute only).

Should be working in the institute for last 1 year.
The teacher should have formal qualification in Intensive Care which can be any one or more of them:
IDCCM, IFCCM, FNB - Critical Care, DM/DrNB - Critical Care, DM- Pulmonary & Critical Care
FICCM (Fellow of Indian College of Critical Care Medicine) with 15 years of experience in critical care medicine post MD qualification.
Equivalent qualification from Australia (FCICM), USA (AB Critical Care), U.K (CCT dual recognition) or Canada. These qualifications must be obtained from University recognised institutes.
PDCC in Critical Care (from an Institute recognised by NMC).
These qualifications may be obtained anytime within 8 yrs post MD to fulfill the criteria to be a teacher (w.e.f Jan 2017 ).
"If a teacher having a trainee registered under him/her leaves an institute during the tenure of the course, he/she cannot enroll a new student in another institute for a period of one year from date of information to the ICCM (information should be provided after leaving the institute). The above rule will not be applicable to teachers who do not have a trainee registered under them at the time of their transfer to another institute".
If a teacher is moving to a hospital/institute that already is accredited and running IDCCM course and he/she has no registered candidate in the previous hospital, he/she can start taking candidates for training under him/her immediately, without having to wait for the 1- year cooling period. This rule does not apply if he/she has a candidate registered under his/her care in the pervious hospital that he/she has left.
Associate Teacher w.e.f May 2019
An associate teacher should meet all the eligibility criteria laid above for the teacher except the following:
Teacher shoold be a post graduate degree holder with MCI recognised qualification- MD with at least 4 years of experience in critical care medicine post MD qualification, in recognized Institute( an Institute recognised by National Board/ ISCCM/ MCI / NABH Institute only).
Teachers with a MCI recognised Post Graduate Diploma-DA (Diploma in Anaesthesia) or DTCD (Diploma in TB and Chest Diseases), with at least 5 years of experience in critical care medicine after MCI recognised Post Graduate Diploma, in recognized Institute( an Institute recognised by National Board/ ISCCM/ MCI / NABH Institute only).
The associate teacher cannot take any candidate or be an examiner for ISCCM courses, until till they complete the 8/10 years post MD,/DA,DTCD respectively, required to become a full teacher years. If the senior teacher leaves the institute, the associate teacher should look after the students in the institute.The Institute should recruit a new teacher within one year of the previous teacher leaving the Institute to continue recognition.
Associate teacher should inform ISCCM Office after completion of his/ her 8/10 years of experience.
The accreditation secretary can ask for additional documents from those applying to be a teacher of the college, to verify their work experience. For e.g Form 16, salary slips etc.
Providing false information will result in Institute/teacher non recognition/ derecognition.
All information sent by the Institution/Teacher should be certified by the Head of the Institution.
